Star Signs (1979)

Concept and creative process

‘Star Signs' was an audience participatory programme about astrology and star signs and what they mean for people. The brief for this title sequence required the familiar symbols associated with astrology to be used in a creative way, which left the designer scope for invention and innovation. Present are palmistry, star signs, sun, moon and constellations of stars galore, but orchestrated and choreographed to the music in an exemplary manner. The sequence was shot on a rostrum camera using back-lit and top-lit artwork, with additional effects created by the use of ripple glass during the shoot.
