Concept and creative process

Titles for a children’s art series which offered ideas and tips on making pictures with everyday objects. For the title sequence the scenario of the stop motion animation from the 1994 series was re-used and refreshed by creating a fluid, roughly drawn line version of the action in white, and superimposing it over the top of the original action. The original was enlarged a bit and changes to the background were made in a digital edit, but the major difference was the inclusion of the presenters as part of the animation. They were shot against green screen and composited with the re-rendered original at suitable moments. In the final computer-generated scene, the assembled 3D logo elements became places where the presenters could perch. The 3D animation of a letter ‘S’ created a transition to the studio where a pot of 3D CGI markers and scissors in the foreground of the presenters was flown out of shot.
