Concept and creative process
Titles for ‘Realms of the Russian Bear’, a series exploring the natural history of the former Soviet Union, combined different elements of the natural environment over a muted monochrome background of dead leaves, with a close up and mid-shot of a live bear, casting its shadow over the background. The movement of the bear across frame triggers the wipe-on of the programme title in gold embossed type above and below the band of location shots. The image layers were composited on a Quantel Henry at 4:2:2 Videographics.
