Real Lives - Face in the Crowd (1999)

Concept and creative process

Title sequence for an intriguing and revealing weekday show which uncovered the diverse and culture-rich lives of the great British people. The sequence was made up of a crowd of mannequins wearing T-shirts, each printed on the back with a different face, lit by coloured lighting in a small studio. The camera panned from the faces on the T-shirts and craned up to reveal the crowd of identically dressed faceless mannequins, their shadows cast on the floor, and one real face looking up into the spotlight.
