Question Time (1996)

Concept and creative process

Opening titles for a topical debate in which guests from the worlds of politics and the media answered questions posed by members of the public. The designer adopted the question mark as the visual hook for the titles and created a multi-layered sequence of five 2D revolving question marks and the letters of the programme title. A zoom on the central question mark became the device by which the panellists’ live portraits were keyed into the sequence each week using a colour separation overlay colour incorporated into the design. The revolving theme was carried through to the animation of the programme title, superimposed over the layered sequence, with the zoom on the central question mark used to wipe the background to the live studio audience.
