Prince Regent (1979)

Concept and creative process

The maintitle for this costume drama series reflected the extravagant tastes of the Prince Regent. Elaborate firework displays were a popular feature of the Regency period and were the perfect means through which to illustrate motifs associated with the life of the Prince Regent, such as the Prince of Wales feathers, the outline of the Brighton Pavilion and the profile of the Prince Regent himself. The style of the opening titles was carried through to the endtitles also, with the remnants of the fireworks slowly burning out to leave a black sky background. The pyrotechnic display motifs were commissioned from a specialist provider and filmed on location.
