Concept and creative process
Titles for a comedy series ‘Potted Histories’, in which comedian Greg Proops presented amusing and informative information about the natural history of pot plants. The title sequence began with a time-lapse shot of a marguerite daisy’s petals opening over a terra cotta background. The daisy formed the ‘O’ of the programme title logo as it zoomed back, the lettering’s heavy dropped shadow giving the impression of it having been indented into the clay surface. The illusion is enhanced by the daisy becoming an imprint also and by the layering of plant leaves and moving shadow effects over the scene in the post-production digital edit. The comedy element of the series is reflected in the light-hearted animating chorus line of pot plants, superimposed in outline in a panning frieze along the bottom of the screen.
