Play for Tomorrow - purple (1982)

Concept and creative process

Generic titles for ‘Play for Tomorrow’, an anthology science fiction series which spun off from the anthology drama series 'Play for Today'. The countdown sequence of the background clock wipe and the foreground revolving cube with the changing numbers and the logo incised into the surface of the facets, was an early example of 3D computer generated animation being used for a title sequence. It was followed by a 2D animation of the letters of the play’s title ‘Cricket’, mirroring the scoreboard in style and superimposed over the sports action, with the BBC cricket programme theme music accompanying it.
