Play for Today (1973)

Concept and creative process

Opening titles for a long-running strand of one-off BBC dramas. This version consisted of a selection of production stills filmed on the rostrum camera in a sequence of jump cuts in time to the music. Intercut with the stills at intervals was the stencil lettering logo, filmed from a clear on black Kodalith, backlit with a red coloured gel and mixing to a clear version with a camera flare filter, to create the glow effect. The sequence was shot entirely in-camera without the need for further editing.
