Pilgrimage (1981)

Concept and creative process

Opening titles for a series of 13 programmes which set out to explore how the Christian life was presented. The Pachelbel Canon in D Major accompanying music determined the length and pace of the titles. The slow tracking shot out of and into the cross within a cross, plus the lengthy dissolves and slow moves of the rostrum camera work on the still photographs of pilgrimages represent the meditative nature of a pilgrimage.
