Paul Temple (1970)

Concept and creative process

Opening titles for a drama series in which crime novelist and amateur sleuth Paul Temple solves mysteries aided by his wife, Steve. The titles for the drama series 'Paul Temple' consisted of the breathless sequence of a man running down an endless corridor with chequerboard wipes creating transitions between the action and a close-up portrait of the leading actor Francis Matthews. The chequerboard wipes were shot on the rostrum camera to create mattes and masters with which to realise the film sequence as a film optical, either in the film laboratory on an optical printer or using an aerial image Oxberry camera setup.
