Concept and creative process
Titles for ‘Out of the Blue’, a crime drama series, set and filmed in Sheffield, starring John Hannah and David Morrissey. The title shots for the series were filmed live action and the exposure increased and bleached out in the telecine transfer to a blue colour with the whites overexposed, in stark contrast to the normal colour of the production footage that followed. As a design feature, the individually designed title credits cut on in soft focus and were then pulled sharply into focus. The main title was layered over a light drop shadow copy of itself, visible through the vignette of the letter shapes, creating an interesting fractured but still legible visual effect.
