Open to Question (1987)

Concept and creative process

Opening titles for a series in which young people from around the country put questions to guest personalities. A series of textured and moving backgrounds were created by combining marbled paper patterns and a textured surface. The letters of the programme title, also textured with contrasting marbled patterns and drop shadows, were faded in and out in synch with the drum beat on the title music track. Cut-out Paintbox treated photographs of participants edited on rhythmically, framed against the moving marbled backgrounds and panning close-ups of the programme logo, which finally resolved to show the complete logo. The whole sequence was edited and animated on a Quantel Harry non-linear editing tool.
