Omnibus (1994)

Concept and creative process

Opening titles for the long-running arts documentary strand ‘Omnibus’, which aired from 1967 until 2003. The letters of ‘Omnibus’ wiped in close-up from one to the next in the order of the colours of the rainbow to the accompaniment of a horn playing the notes in a C major scale in 10 seconds - a third faster pace than the piano rendition of the same idea used in the 1993 version of the titles. The visuals were created in a 2D computer animation on a grey grid over a black background. The colour spilled over onto the grid from the letterform in close-up and similarly in the final wide shot of the logo in white, with the original rainbow colours reprised as a header above each letter.
