Oliver Twist (1962)

Concept and creative process

These titles for Constance Cox’s adaptation of the Dickens classic ‘Oliver Twist’ are an early example of a simple solution to a programme opening. A production still of Oliver's finest moment became the background for the main title, with the remaining captions white on black, filmed on a rostrum camera. The print from which this clip was taken appears to have suffered some distortion and the sound quality has deteriorated.
