A generic title sequence for ‘The Classic Serial’ strand precedes the titles for Thomas Hardy’s ‘The Mayor of Casterbridge’, a drama serial which told the story of a man of character, adapted for television by Dennis Potter. The title captions were printed and decorated with illustrations in the style of wood cuts.
