Concept and creative process
Titles for Carla Lane's comedy series starring Michael Angelis and Sue Johnston. The opening sequence is the same as for series one, but as everything in the plot is taking a darker turn, the sequence is rendered in monochrome, with a red title. The sequence was created in a drawn animation of a single rose unfurling into full bloom against a background of a net curtain, moving in a gentle breeze. A wide shot followed depicting the wilting rose shedding its petals on the table where it stood in a tall glass vase, while an animated scene of a van departing on the street outside was visible through the net curtain. The whole story in essence encapsulated in 30 seconds, was composited in a digital edit of the separate layers of the animation.
