‘Leviathan’ was a series presented by Mark Urban which took the long view of history and examined how it has shaped current news stories. For the opening title sequence, Ralph Steadman and Steve Masters took inspiration from the monster of the deep and produced this complex, cut-out, animated view of history, in Steadman’s inimitable style. Layers of drawn animated blood were used to transition between scenes and blood-spattered vignettes allowed a glimpse of satirical takes on historical, political and religious events. The sequence was animated in a digital edit suite, using electronic effects to bring Steadman’s drawings to life.
