The Les Dawson Show (1987)

Concept and creative process

A Vegas-style ‘neon’ sign featuring the unforgettable comedian’s name, formed the basis of the opening title sequence for ‘The Les Dawson Show’. A six-foot (2 metre) high model was constructed out of white plastic tubing and then filmed in 35mm on a motion control rig. The model was shot at a low angle to give a sense of scale. Sections of the ‘neon’ were isolated to be later colourised and composited in post-production, where the glow was also added.
