The Lenny Henry Show (1985)

Concept and creative process

An iconic and seminal piece of work from Paul D'Auria and Mike McGee at Framestore for the opening titles of the Brixton Broadcasting Corporation, aka 'The Lenny Henry Show'. Their exploration of the possibilities of digital technology for creating a fun, richly multi-layered montage of graphic elements and text were highly influential. Paul D'Auria's visual interpretation of the titles for 'The Lenny Henry Show' took its cues from the text sung by Lenny Henry. The work was created and animated on a Quantel Harry by Mike McGee at Framestore. Digital technology gave the designer a great deal of creative freedom in his interpretation of the lyrics of the title song to manipulate text, graphic symbols and imagery and live action of the presenter into a seamless and perfectly judged sequence.
