Concept and creative process
Opening titles for a series of programmes to help people understand basic everyday maths, in the era of decimal currency and metric measurement, presented by Jimmy Young. The title sequence is well choreographed to the music in a series of animated tableaux of everyday life situations where maths abounds. A reprise of the individual scenes builds a final montage of stills as a border to the animation of the numerals 1 to 0, which in turn are replaced by the programme title ‘It Figures’. The sequence was drawn and animated on graph paper and filmed on a rostrum camera.
