An Independent Man (1995)

Concept and creative process

In the drama series 'An Independent Man', George Cole plays the part of Freddie Patterson, the owner of a string of hairdressing salons and an elected independent local councillor, holding the balance of power between Labour and Conservative, who combine forces in an effort to thwart his ambition. I used the cutting of a paper daisy chain to suggest his independent political status, intercut with live action film establishing his personality and suburban setting. The live action was filmed on location with the lead actor, car and trailer. The paper cutting was filmed live action footage at Damson Films by Director of Photography Paul Handley. The sequence was transferred and edited on video.
