Goodbye Mr Kent (1982)

Concept and creative process

Titles for a comedy series starring Richard Briers as the lodger and Hannah Gordon as the landlady. For the title sequence the actors were shot in the photographic studio on a motorized stills stills camera. This recorded in limited movement sequences of them licking and sticking labels on a bottle of wine and a suitcase, plus a two-shot of the landlady apparently giving the lodger his marching orders, with his case packed and labelled. The filling of the case from an untidy heap of clothes was also achieved with motorised stills. The shots were all printed and registered and filmed on a rostrum camera with mixes between the stills, giving an impression of stylised live action.
