Frontiers (1990)

Concept and creative process

A series in which eight writers, with special reasons to care, journey along some of the most critical frontiers in the world. The series had a different title sequence for each episode as each dealt with a different border. This title sequence featured the long border between Finland and the USSR, itself soon to face dissolution in 1991. The 3D contour map split along the border to reveal the ‘Frontiers’ 3D logo animation, which resolved centre screen completed by the silhouetted barbed wire animation. The generic part of the titles common to all episodes featured different parts of the world contour map intercut with filmed symbols of border security.
