Freud (1984)

Concept and creative process

The opening titles for a dramatisation of the life, work and ideas of Sigmund Freud, the father of psychoanalysis, were a montage of scenes of a baby and stills of sculptural antiquities from Freud’s own collection in the study of his London home, now preserved as a museum. Many of these antiquities, such as Oedipus, Eros and Venus appeared in Freud’s theories and were an inspiration for him in the development of his psychoanalytical work.
