A Family Man (1984)

Concept and creative process

The titles for this three-part drama serial took the form of a drawn pencil animated portrait of each of the main actors, topped and tailed by typographic captions of the drama and author’s title and the episode title. The animation was based on rotoscoped live action footage of the cameo scenes. To achieve this the images were projected and traced frame by frame onto paper and subsequently rendered in pencil with light and shade and then re-filmed on a rostrum camera.
