From the Edge (1998)

Concept and creative process

A series of films about disability made by the disabled. The brief was simple: to show the programme contributors in action in the title sequence. The designers achieved this through a split screen of the contributors and action shots, linked via simple oval and edge to edge vertical wipes. They designed a split logo which slides into shot from the edge of frame to meet in the middle, echoing the wipes. The background shot is of the contributors, nicely choreographed to remove their sunglasses synchronously as the logo meets over their portrait shot. The word 'the' punctuates the final note of the music in an oval vignette, which neatly completes the logo, also in the style of the wipes. A lot of thought has gone into achieving a relatively simple result with limited means that completely fulfils its function.
