Down To Earth (1992)

Concept and creative process

Opening titles for a series looking at rural life and what was happening in the Welsh countryside. The sequence was production led and involved the setting up of a video camera to capture footage from one viewpoint at different times throughout the seasons. The winter view was taken from a video still, airbrushed to make it appear snow covered and matched in the video edit. The remainder of the live action shots were set up individually and matched to one another in the edit. The title caption and illustration were captured from a caption camera in the edit suite and faded in using a soft vignette. The combination of the winter scene and the title caption with a white textured overall layer gave the sequence a stylistically unified beginning and end.
