Detective (1964)

Concept and creative process

A combination of finger prints, faces and identikit pictures, seen through the vignette of a magnifying glass, created a fast-cutting sequence for the titles of 'Detective', in which Bernard Lodge explored the potential of the rostrum camera and animation stand to animate the inanimate. All of the images were shot on film. "It was my first creative job at the BBC, pioneering the use of the rostrum camera's animation stand for something other than pure animation".

Winner of a Design & Art Direction Wood Pencil for Television Graphics 1965.
