Dead Head (1986)

Concept and creative process

'Dead Head' was a dark satire by Howard Brenton based on a contemporary Jack the Ripper theme. A clockwork manikin, manipulated by unseen forces, symbolised the plight of a hapless smalltime crook who gets rapidly out of his depth in the upper echelons of the Establishment. The clockwork figure was made at Bournville School of Art and filmed live action 35mm at Damson Film Studios using a basic set. The main title typography was projected in situ onto the set wall.
