Daylight Robbery! (1988)

Concept and creative process

Titles for a series in which Jessica Holm looked at how cleverly grey squirrels have taken up the challenge of sharing our gardens and stealing food from us. A sequence of challenges proved no match for the squirrel’s ability to reach food anywhere. Each little victory was marked with a frozen frame animated outline of the predator and a flash of lightning. The frozen frames were traced as lines and filmed on a rostrum camera to create a black and white version of the animation, which was combined with the production footage in a film optical.
