Danger: Take Two a Day (1973)

Concept and creative process

Titles for a two-part enquiry in which Christopher Brasher investigated the safety of drugs. This was my first ever BBC opening title sequence. The aspirin artwork consisted of a model pill made from wood, 2 inches (5 cms) in diameter, with a hole on either side so that a metal spoke could be inserted to create a model mover for rotation purposes. The modelmaker was a technician from Hornsey College of Art. A photograph was also made with a clear cel overlay so that the text could be added using Letraset. The pill mixed from its model shoot final position to the print. A photograph of a glass pill bottle was taken and lit so that the centre was black (i.e. rim-lit with highlights). The black area was used to double expose the white pill.
