Crusades - ghost riders (1995)

Concept and creative process

Programme content for the documentary series ‘Crusades’ written and presented by Terry Jones of Monty Python fame. Four sequences were created as part of the programme itself. The script was written beforehand, but the voiceover and music were recorded after the graphic elements and sequences were created. For the two ‘Crusades Ghost Riders’ sequences the live action of Terry Jones driving a jeep was supplied by the production together with shots of crusaders on horses. The sequences were put together in a digital edit suite, where the horses were made transparent and composited into the shot with Terry Jones. Other shots of crusaders on horses were manipulated and footage of clouds was merged with the riders to create the effect of them being made up of clouds.
