Comedy Playhouse (1968)

Concept and creative process

Opening titles for a long-running anthology series of one-off sitcoms, many of which launched other classic comedy series. This was the generic title for the ‘Comedy Playhouse’ strand. The one-off plays that followed it would each have had their own specific titles and credits. The designer had the words ‘Comedy’, ‘Play House’ and ‘Presents’ printed in white on a large number of caption cards in a great variety of type styles. The artwork was filmed single frame under a rostrum camera, either whole or in detail, editing the shots in-camera on average every three frames in sync with the music.
