Collector's World (1975)

Concept and creative process

Titles for a series of a programme for collectors, introduced by Hugh Scully. Still photographs of many different types of collectibles are displayed in a square arrangement of four decorative boxes in the centre of the screen. The images dissolve rhythmically from one to the next in sync with the music, ending with three details of the programme logo and the complete ‘Collector’s World’ title filling the boxes. The whole sequence was filmed top-lit and captured in-camera on a rostrum camera in one pass, thus avoiding the need for any editing or film opticals.
