The Chronicles of Narnia (1988)

Concept and creative process

The opening title sequence for the classic C.S. Lewis story 'The Chronicles of Narnia', the first of the three BBC Children’s drama series of the C.S. Lewis books. The sequence combined model elements and flat artwork filmed on a motion control camera rig with 2D animation and live action. The titles were foil blocked and printed in several metallic colours on black caption card. They were lit and filmed to enhance their three-dimensional appearance and composited in post-production with the filmed backgrounds. The post-production edit was used to combine all of the elements, creating a sense of place and atmosphere for the Kingdom of Narnia and Aslan the Lion.
