Chronicle - insert on hallucination (1989)

Concept and creative process

Insert on hallucination for 'Chronicle', the flagship archaeology series. The sequence represented the fact that Bushmen in Africa, when in a state of frenzy, will experience the same as a Westerner in a drug-induced state. All the material was found in various film libraries. Some, such as flowers opening, was stock footage from Oxford Scientific Films. Graphic assistant Iain Macdonald was filmed sitting on a chair, revolving as the camera zoomed in. This was the only specially shot material, as everything else was sourced, apart from some stills. All of the footage was digitally online edited at The Moving Picture Company. Much time was spent sourcing the right kind of shots and the edit took place over a weekend and went into the early hours (4am!).
