Chopsticks (1980)

Concept and creative process

'Chopsticks' was a series of programmes for older children full of fun and inventive ideas. The concept for the opening titles came from designer Richard Markell seeing the musical director playing the title music 'Chopsticks' on the piano. The black and white keyboard suggested a totally black and white animated sequence, with the only colour being introduced by the 'Chopsticks' logo at the end, brushed across the screen by a cartoon hand.
