Bootle Saddles (1984)

Concept and creative process

Sitcom about a group of Wild West fanatics who spend their spare time dressing up and recreating the American frontier. In the titles Joanna Ball (now Lane) summarised in the image of the gun, the passion and attention to detail of the group of Wild West enthusiasts. She filmed the cleaning and checking and loading of a gun before a single shot was fired, and intercut the footage with some specially shot stills of the Wild West enthusiasts and actual historical stills. The ‘Bootle Saddles’ logo was designed by Senior Designer Dick Bailey, who had passed the job on to Joanna to design, as he had too many other commitments to handle at the time.
