Concept and creative process
Dick Bailey took over the production of this sequence for the science-fiction drama series when the original designer, Doug Burd, sadly died in a tragic flying accident while filming for another title sequence. Close-up detail of a model planet was filmed at Zephyr Studios. The animating graphic overlays and the logo animation were shot on a rostrum camera in sync with the camera moves on the model shoot and the layers were composited in a film optical.
