Beau Geste (1982)

Concept and creative process

One of a series of Children’s Sunday night dramas, ‘Beau Geste’ is the story of three orphan brothers who joined the French Foreign Legion in the period before the First World War, only one of whom was to return alive. The sand timer reflected their journey to the desert and the passing of time. It was filmed live action in a studio in Borehamwood, with stills and the production still of the Legionaires superimposed. A sand pit in Dorset was used as a location for the desert by the production.
