BBC2 Flowers ident (1991)

Concept and creative process

The 'Flowers' ident was designed to be used before programmes like 'Gardeners' World' and nature programmes. The BBC Two Viridian Green colour stipulated by the brand team was in use on all idents at the time. In time it proved too restrictive to work with and was ultimately abandoned, and emphasis was placed more on the ‘2’. The 'Flowers' ident was shot completely in stop-frame animation, using replacement model flowers at various stages of opening to create the illusion of the flowers blooming, as if in a time-lapse film.
