Concept and creative process
BBC2’s 1994 Christmas promotion campaign on the theme of the elements was inspired by an extract from Oscar Wilde’s ‘The Selfish Giant’. A Winter world is inhabited by Jack Frost, a Snow Queen and the Wind, all of whom reveal the BBC2 logo using their elemental qualities – frost, snow and wind. The four idents of this campaign were shot entirely as live action, within a huge hand-painted set. The artistes were shot in costume and make-up in the studio, revealing the logo in real time. Some spot effects were added in post-production.
Winner of a Design & Art Direction Wood Pencil Award 1995.
Winner of a Royal Television Society Award.
