Bazaar (1987)

Concept and creative process

The presenters of this show, described as a ‘marketplace of ideas’, helped viewers find out how to save time, effort and money while learning to eat healthily, knit, sew, apply make-up with confidence, exercise and do DIY jobs about the home, among many other things. The titles reflected much of this content in a simple graphic style that linked through to the programme logo over the opening studio shot. The animation was based on rotoscoped drawings taken from a 16mm live action shoot at Damson Studios, edited by Dave Farlie in the graphics cutting room. It was projected and every other frame was traced and then painted in flat colours and re-filmed for the final sequence.
