Animal Magic (1963)

Concept and creative process

‘Animal Magic’ was a popular fortnightly children's natural history programme which was made by the Natural History Unit in Bristol. It was presented by Johnny Morris, who provided voices for the animals and made them talk. The titles were created in the form of a puzzle, whose pieces fitted together to create a special postage stamp to mark National Nature Week. This was all shot directly under a rostrum camera with a fast track and pan to show the franking mark announcing the programme title. A specific title for a specific week.
