Advice Shop (1992)

Concept and creative process

‘Advice Shop’ was a 30-minute weekly magazine programme aimed at helping people through the maze of bureaucracy, how to claim benefits due and generally untangle the small print of various government directives. The producers were Frank Ash and Tina Fletcher. One of the reporters was Paul Lewis, a presenter of the ‘Money Box’ programme on BBC Radio 4. The idea for the title sequence was simply to show different coloured lines snaking through a maze before resolving into the ‘Advice Shop’ logo. The animation was computer generated by Rick Stringfellow, a BBC colleague working in the BBC News Graphics department.
