Concept and creative process
For the design of the BBC2 clock a curiously retro approach was adopted with several versions, two with a black background and the other mid grey with a variation in the accompanying logo. Unlike the pared down approach adopted for BBC1 with simple oblong markings at 5 minute intervals and a second hand which ticked off the seconds, all three versions of the BBC2 clock featured visually complicated Roman numerals, plus an outer ring of lighter one minute intervals and bolder 5 minute intervals, similar to BBC1. It looks as if nobody had been able to decide for one design or the other and so instead both had been amalgamated for good measure!
