Welcome information

The pre-arrival reading and tasks are designed to help you transition smoothly into the MSc Information Technology Management course by introducing you to key industry concepts, developing essential skills, and encouraging early engagement with the field. 

Academic Preparation 

• Referencing Practice: Familiarise yourself with the Harvard referencing style on Cite Them Right (you will have full access to this resource once you have enrolled and activated your IT account)
• Academic Reading: Read an article or white paper related to IT management or digital transformation and write a short personal reflection or summary. 

Technical Skills & Tools 

• Short Online Course (Optional): Complete a free online course in IT Management, Agile, ITIL, or related areas on platforms like Coursera, edX, or LinkedIn Learning. CompTIA IT Fundamentals: Online Courses, Training and Tutorials | LinkedIn Learning 
• Core Concept Review: Refresh your understanding of project life cycles (SDLC), cloud computing, Agile, and digital platforms. 
• Install Key Tools: Ensure you are familiar with and have access to collaboration tools such as Microsoft Teams, Trello, or any other project management platform. 

Professional Development 

• LinkedIn Profile: Set up or update your LinkedIn profile to reflect your academic and career interests in IT Management. https://www.linkedin.com/in/dr-naureen-farhan-25a91b21a/  
• Industry Follow List: Follow organisations like Gartner, TechCrunch, CIO.com, and key figures in digital transformation on social media. Digital economy 

Community & Networking 

• Join Communities: Participate in LinkedIn groups or discussion forums related to IT, innovation, and digital leadership. 
• Follow the course on Instagram 

Reflection Task 

• Write a Short Reflection (100 - 200 words): Describe your goals for the MSc course, your interests in IT Management, and what you hope to achieve during your time at Ravensbourne. 

Laptop requirements 

Please see our laptop requirements document to ensure you have a device that will be suitable for your studies. You must have a laptop to be able to complete your course.

During this week you must attend an enrolment session to complete your in-person enrolment and become an official Ravensbourne University student. Following this you will attend inductions on living and studying in the UK, have a tour of the campus and meet other students.

Thursday 10 September - Friday 11 September

In-Person Enrolment: 9.30am - 12.00pm

Please book a day and time to complete your in-person enrolment here. You must complete your in-person enrolment before attending your international induction and your first week. You only need to attend on one day.

International Induction: 12.30pm - 4.00pm

Once you have enrolled you will attend this session which covers key information about living and studying in the UK.

Your course welcome week activities will be taking place on the following dates. This is a really important time for you to meet fellow students, your course team and become part of the Ravensbourne community. These sessions will cover key information about your course and everything you need to set you up for your studies.

Your teaching starts in the week commencing Monday 21 September. In your first semester you will have three teaching sessions per week as follows:

If you have any questions ahead of joining us, our online drop-in sessions will take place on Tuesdays and Fridays, 1.00pm - 2.00pm UK Time.
