Wise Up at Ravensbourne

Returning to higher education as an adult can feel overwhelming, but the Wise Up programme is specifically designed for students aged 21 and older, approaching undergraduate courses, helping them to bridge that gap. 

By addressing the unique challenges mature applicants face, this programme offers tailored guidance and encouragement to rebuild confidence and ensure a smooth transition into university life.

Through this programme, you will:

• Explore your options: Get clear guidance on course selection tailored to your goals.
• Build confidence: Gain the self-belief needed to thrive in an academic environment.
• Develop practical digital skills: Learn to confidently navigate university software and submit applications online.
• Master work-life balance: Discover practical strategies for balancing university study with your real-world responsibilities.
• Connect with peers: Meet like-minded mature students and start building a strong support network before your studies even begin.

To be eligible to take part in Wise Up you must be a mature student (aged 21 and over), considering taking an undergraduate course and currently hold NEET status (not in education, employment, or training.) This is a compulsory requirement.

You may also fall into the below criteria (non compulsory requirements):

• First-generation students: The first in your immediate family to attend university.
• Care-experienced or estranged (CEES): Individuals who have spent time in care or are estranged from family support.
• Carers: Those with primary caring responsibilities for family members or relatives.
• Disabled and neurodivergent individuals: Including those with physical disabilities, mental health conditions, neurodivergent conditions, or specific learning difficulties (SpLD).
• Global majority: Belonging to ethnically diverse communities.
• Low-income backgrounds: Coming from a household with an annual income below £30,000, or having been eligible for free school meals during secondary education.
