Spotlighting Illustrator and Animator Robin Wood

From self-published comic zines to standout animations, BA Illustration student Robin Wood is making a distinct mark on the creative scene. Known for her expressive storytelling and distinct visual language, Robin’s work recently reached an international audience when she was selected to represent the university on the official Ravensbourne stand at this year’s D&AD Festival.
As a neurodiverse artist, Robin brings a rich and insightful perspective to her creative process, using animation and sequential art to explore personal themes, build immersive worlds, and connect with audiences in authentic ways. Her dedication to self-publishing and continuous experimentation highlights both her technical skill and her drive as an emerging independent creator. We caught up with Robin to learn more about the skills and inspiration behind her work, and her experience as a neurodiverse Illustration student at Ravensbourne:
What inspired your recent work and self-published comics/animations?
Robin: I’m always inspired by my own interests outside of art and illustration, I’m always trying to learn more about wildlife and geography for instance, and I try to find ways to explore those interests in my work. I'm also consistently tempted to do new things, explore new mediums, creating comics and animations throughout my course has been part of that.
How was it being featured at the D&AD festival on the Ravensbourne stand?
Robin: It was inspiring being surrounded by so much incredible work from both Ravensbourne and the other featured universities. It was quite an honour having my work alongside so many amazing projects.
How has your experience as a neurodiverse student at the university shaped your creative process or journey in illustration?
Robin: It’s pushed me to explore topics visually in ways I haven’t seen done before. Much of illustration is about communication, and being able to communicate such unique experiences visually, in my own way, is both challenging and rewarding.
